Special Operations Warrior Foundation Awarded Second Consecutive Four-Star Rating by Charity Navigator
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) December 6, 2007 -- For the second year in a row, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's largest non-profit watchdog group. It's Charity Navigator's highest rating for effective, efficient spending.
Charity Navigator rates non-profits based on how much money they spend on overhead, fundraising and other services. It also compares spending to similar charities. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is just one of four veterans services and advocacy charities on the Charity Navigator site to earn at least two consecutive four-star ratings.
"Less than 15% of the more than 5,300 charities we've rated have received at least two consecutive four-star evaluations," said Trent Stamp, president, Charity Navigator, "indicating that the Special Operations Warrior Foundation outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible. This 'exceptional' rating from Charity Navigator differentiates the Special Operations Warrior Foundation from its peers and proves that it's worthy of the public's trust."
"We are proud to be the recipients of a four-star rating from Charity Navigator," said John T. Carney, Jr., SOWF President and Chief Executive Officer. "What that tells our donors and supporters is that their money will be put to good use. In fact, 93 percent of every dollar donated goes directly into programs for the children of fallen special operations personnel or severely wounded troops."
Some nationally-known supporters of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation include professional golfer, Phil Mickelson, NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and the New York Yankees.
For more than 27 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has provided full college educations to the surviving children of fallen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel. Funding includes tuition, books, fees, room and board and a laptop computer.
The foundation currently has more than 700 children in its program, with some 120 students currently enrolled in colleges and universities across the country. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation also provides financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel.
